I loved the changes to gameplay progression made in this one as well, with The Duke, finding crystals, and hunting animals to upgrade.įor me, it was on par with RE 2, even exceeding RE 2 at times, up until the final boss which I found to be quite lackluster and disappointing. Improved upon RE 7 in just about every way as far as I'm concerned, level design, world building, enemy variety, visuals, sound effects, environmental design and variety, scope, you name it.

The tone and storytelling is dramatically different than RE7, which I wasn't expecting. This one has been fantastic so far (although a lot less scary than RE7). I also didn't care for the final boss, but it was a pretty typical RE end-boss so it's fine. The ship near the end playing as Mia in particular was a bit of a confusing labyrinth for me. It's probably the scariest RE yet for me so far.Īs for the game itself, it was a little bit more obtuse in some of it's puzzle designs and just figuring out where you're supposed to go compared to RE2 and RE3. The first person perspective and the general vibe/aesthetic was really effective in creeping me the hell out. The first half of the game was definitely creepier than the second half, but to honest the whole damn game had me constantly on edge.
